Starting on February 28, 2024 to April 22, 2024, I painted three paintings for an independent project. Due to a recent trip to Disneyland for the first time in California, I was heavily inspired by Disney, more specifically, the Disney princesses. As such, I took three different Disney princess movies, ‘The Princess and the Frog,’ ‘Brave,’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ and took a specific aspect of the movie and painted it. Thus the name of the project was ‘Disney Princesses’ Bits and Pieces.’ My first painting was the most complex of the three. Since I wanted my project to be obvious on what my theme was, I wanted at least one painting with one of the princesses. So, I painted princess Tiana on a balcony enjoying the sunlight. This painting was difficult but my most prized work in this series. Next painting was the pastries from the movie ‘Brave.’ I was really indecisive about what I wanted it to be. At first I wanted to do the little soul trail, after which I wanted the bow and arrow, then the pastry that turned the mom into a bear. However, none of those ideas had good reference photos. But when I was going to give up on ‘Brave,’ a photo of the pastries that the three little brothers favored came up on my search and I immediately started to sketch it out. I actually really liked the painting process of this one and the end result of the painting is something I was really proud of. Lastly, my third painting was of books and a wilting rose to symbolize ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ To be honest, I didn’t like painting this one at all for some odd reason. This painting was actually the first that I sketched out but I postponed working on it til the end. On the other hand, I do like the end result but it was definitely hard for me to get the motivation to work on it. In the end, I mostly enjoyed working on this project. I loved having the freedom to pick what I wanted to do and have my own schedule. Also, I absolutely adored the finishing works and will immediately hang them on my wall once I get them back so I can remember this project and feel pride of my first independent project.

12/20/2023 0 Comments Celebration of Learning On December 19, 2023, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, the academies from W.H. Croxford High School came together and displayed what they had learned and done in the past semester. It was an opportunity for students to show off their passions to friends, family, and strangers. I, as a student a part of the Visual Arts & Media Academy, naturally displayed some of my best art pieces. This included my parrot wax-cap mushroom painting, four photos, two still life drawings, a monster sculpture, and the ‘Murder on Sass Street’ silent film. Personally, I believe that my best work there was my painting. As I was a beginner artist, I worked long and hard to perfect it. I even, at one point, stayed up till 1:00am finishing the piece. In the end, the long and grueling hours were worth it. In my painting, I did exceptionally well in making the glaze on the cap of the mushroom and the mushroom stem. Taking more than five different colours, they were properly layered and looked quite close to the actual photo and the stems were accurately shaded and highlighted. Additionally, the leaves and acorn in front of the mushroom were nicely painted and the background was appropriately blurred to show the minimum depth of field in the referenced photograph. During the event, I personally felt that the art show went relatively well. When I was hosting the silent movies for the first half an hour, I noticed that the guests were interested and curious about the displays. The mood felt light throughout the evening and lots of guests came to the art show. Furthermore, my friends and family came to the event and they were excited about the Celebration of Learning. In the meantime, I felt proud of myself for my growth in the past semester. The Visual Arts & Media Academy has taught me to look at the world in a more artistic viewpoint. This viewpoint makes it so much easier to get inspiration from things around me. Moreover, the academy has taught me to explore different types of media.
Ultimately, the evening of the Celebration of Learning was a happy one, even if we were dead tired at the end of the night |
